The following is Jay Chen's Candidate Statement for the Sample Ballot:

Jay Chen is a 20-year resident of Hacienda Heights and was born in Michigan. He is proud to hail from the public school system, and graduated from Mesa Robles and Wilson High School. He graduated with Honors from Harvard University where he focused on Latin American Studies. A true product of his community, Jay is tri-lingual in English, Spanish and Mandarin.

Public service is a cornerstone of Jay’s life, and he hopes to impart that value upon our students. In recognition of his service, Lions Clubs International named him Leo of the Year and he represented the service organization at the Rose Parade. Jay attended Harvard on a Marine Corps NROTC scholarship and is currently a mentor for both Wilson’s Leo Club and congressional interns in Los Angeles.

Jay will bring experience in both government and private enterprise to the School Board. He has worked in a congressional office in Washington DC and at the US Embassy in Costa Rica. Trained as a strategy consultant at Bain & Company, he has also volunteered in Honduras as an agri-business advisor. Jay is currently a real estate investor and is building health-focused restaurants in Los Angeles.
