Jay Chen wins Alumni Award from TACL and the Honorable Judy Chu (BOE)
6/14/2008, Rosemead CA - Jay Chen, a former political intern with the Taiwanese American Citizens League (TACL) was honored by TACL and Board of Equalization Member Judy Chu at the 2008 TACL banquet, held at the Doubletree Hotel in Rosemead.
Jay was a political intern in 1996 and worked in the Washington D.C. office of Congressman Ed Royce prior to attending Harvard University. He currently serves as a mentor and advisor to the political intern program. He was honored along with award-winning fiction writer and lawyer Charles Yu. Charles is also a former intern and is the author of Third Class Superhero.

A native of Hacienda Heights and proud graduate of Mesa Robles (‘92), Wilson High School (‘96) and Harvard University (‘01), Jay is excited by the opportunity to serve his community and hopes to raise standards, goals and achievement for all students in La Puente and Hacienda Heights.
Jay began his business career as a strategy consultant at Bain & Company, where he helped develop and implement business strategies for Fortune 500 companies. He has since applied his training to real estate projects in Los Angeles with great success. Prior to Bain, Jay worked at the US Embassy in Costa Rica and co-authored travel books on Central and South America. He is fluent in Spanish, Mandarin and English.
With his strong business background, deep roots in the district, and trilingual ability, Jay believes he can bring objective and practical insight to the Board and can uniquely serve and understand the needs of our diverse community. Jay hopes to instill fresh ideas, clear accountability, and strong leadership in our schools. He was elected to the board in 2007 with the top vote and highest vote total ever for a first-time candidate in a regular election. He was also selected to be a delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention, representing Congressional District 38, winning 70% of the vote.
